How repetition can help with attention skills
Repetition is the key to strengthening your attention skills.
Yoga, attending church, and running every day are all healthy activities.
It is only by repeating what has already been done that we can improve.
The exercises should be adjusted based on your attention baseline. This is because by repeating what has already been done, we can identify patterns that can help us understand how our attention levels improve or worsen over time. This allows us to make adjustments to the exercises that can help us better focus and maintain our attention levels.
Baseline to make these exercises work:
IMPORTANT - DO NOT SKIP THIS! First, start a task you have. It doesn't matter if it's reading, writing, or working in the yard.
Determine the task, set a timer, and work for as long as you can before losing attention. Do not check your phone, stop to talk, or daydream.
You may be surprised at how much time is lost in those minute instances.
This is your baseline and all exercises are designed with a 5-minute baseline in mind.
If your baseline is high, adjust accordingly. If it is lower, keep the same timeline.
Training Your Focus

Set a timer for 7 minutes

Focus completely on working, reading, or on the task

Take a 3-minute break

Set for another 7 minutes

Each day add another 2 minutes to your focused work time. A break time of 1 minute will be added.
Success in Less Than Two Weeks?
Once you're comfortable with what you're doing, adjust your attention skill sessions to increase the length and decrease the duration of your breaks. By the end of 12 days, you should have increased your productivity by 41 minutes followed by 14 minutes of break time.
An hour's productivity should be 50 minutes, with a 10-minute break every hour.
Become mindful and meditate
When the hustle and bustle of daily life has you flustered, take 10 minutes to close your eyes and think things through. Research has shown that meditation can increase your attention span.
By stopping and observing your surroundings throughout the day, mindfulness seeks to incorporate the mind and body with the surrounding environment.
Attention - No Past Thoughts - No Future Thought
Aiming for the future is being in the present. The entire idea of mindfulness can be summed up in one simple phrase -- be where your hands are.
If you are at work, and your mind is at home it's time to practice mindfulness. This helps with attention span because it forces you to focus on what you are doing right now.
Training Your Memory Power
Increasing your attention span through memory training is something you can do daily.
A simple exercise is to read a story on your favorite news site, wait 5 minutes, then write a quick summary of that story.
Next, re-read the story to see if you missed any key information.
As you progress, study longer and longer pieces of work. Read it thoroughly and slowly. Like eating ribs, slow and steady is the name of the game.
Attentive listening
Focus is critical
Focus works, not only in the work environment, but also in the home environment.
In truth, listening and communicating with loved ones builds rapport and intimacy. Logic shows that couples with a high degree of intimacy tend to live better lives and stay together longer.
Listening attentively means focusing all of your energy on the person talking. The easiest way to do this is to ditch the phone.
Psychologists use active listening. This means you listen attentively, then feedback something they just said to let them know you understand their feelings on the subject. This works perfectly -- and you'll be considered a terrific conversationalist!

Keep a journal.

Set a word goal for the day.
Write 600-700 words on whatever you are thinking about, it doesn't have to be good. It can help if you remain positive. After writing, dump all the excess thoughts.
Your attention skills will allow you to accomplish more during the day. No matter what your goals are, accomplishments often lead to success.
